E is for... Email

Emails - not always a great way of communication, but sometimes a necessary means of communication.

Today, we have a call to action. Your task is to send that email you have been putting off before it is too late.

There is something about actually clicking on the send button to send that all importabt email that your future career is depending on. The nerves kick in and you don't want to do it. You delay... chicken out. STOP.

Today, take that step and click send. Yes, by the end of the day I will have expected you to have clicked on send. Proof-read, finish your draft and do whatever you need to do to get you over that final hurdle and click on send.

Just don't forget to proof-read. Whether the email is to your boss, HR department, recruiter or a different contact altogether do remember that you are trying to make a good impression.

So:

  • Prepare
  • Draft
  • Proof-read / Spell Check
  • Review
  • Check any attachments
  • Double check email address
  • One final look....

...Send.

This is an extract from Putting Pen to Paper's upcoming Career Development Workbook.

  1. My thing with emails is I'm always convinced, right after I've sent them, that I accidentally included someone in the "To" section who it would be a tragedy for them to get it. Even if it's impossible, I still think I did it.

    1. I check and check and check... it is a very bad and stressful habit to get into. I sympathise.

  2. What would we ever do without email! Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

  3. It's interesting that a blog that you wrote about "sending that email" would have been "sending that letter or card" about 20 years ago. I can't help it - I miss the handwritten note or card. Emails are good, considering the expediency. What's next? "Sending that text..." Found you on Blogging A to Z and intend to come back. Drop by if you have time to mine at www.dianeweidenbenner.com (In my own words on the blogroll).

    1. I still do sending that card etc I love handwritting things. In a career/professional situation it is better to type (which is the theme) but I love handwritting cards and letters.

I have so many half written or unsent ones lying around - completely honest writing. Sometimes it is lovely to go back and read them. I don't do it as much now... but I still need to have a good old writing set on my desk.

      Thanks for dropping by.
